I had a glimpse last week into what it looks like when people lack mental flexibility.
Overwhelm, anger, frustration, and an inability to figure out a different way to get the result they were looking for OR an acceptable alternative.
I’ll admit that I had to look up where this quote came from (and hadn’t heard the last part before today) but always thought it applied to sales;
“If plan A doesn’t work, the alphabet has 25 more letters – 204 if you’re in Japan.” ~ Claire Cook, Seven Year Switch
Sales is a profession that takes mental flexibility!
I think the issue is as salespeople we tend to forget that flexibility takes practice – whether physical or mental flexibility.
Here are a few examples salespeople shared with me for how they practice mental flexibility:
> drive to work a different route every morning.
> read something by a new author each day
> ask for a recommendation of the server at lunch and try whatever it is.
What are you doing to practice mental flexibility?
