when you sink to the level of your training

“Under pressure, you don’t rise to the occasion, you sink to the level of your training.
That’s why we train so hard.” ~ anonymous Navy Seal

When people talk about training in sales, it is typically about salespeople… not sales leaders and managers.

Which seems odd to me.

There certainly isn’t LESS pressure when in a leadership or management role.

Of course the training is on different topics. Here are my 5 top picks for the skills we need to train hard to build.

1. how to have a coaching conversation
2. building teams (yes that is a skill)
3. when to manage & when to lead
4. delegating the result & letting go of how they get there
5. being a good mentor

Now after you know the right technique, to ensure when we sink to the level of your training, practice is critical.

1. role-play coaching conversations
2. build team building activities into your week
3. consciously decide if a situation requires management or leadership… or both
4. remember to breathe
5. find yourself a good mentor and model their techniques

How great will it be for pressure to have you sink to being “good” at your role because typically you are “masterful”?
