Beware of Monotony

I was trying to think of something awesome… something inspirational… to write, and came up a little empty. Ever have days like that?

Which is when I came across this Edith Wharton quote

“Beware of monotony; it’s the mother of all deadly sins.”

Now if you’re like me you said WHO is Edith Wharton? Turns out she was the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Literature, in 1921.

And in case you need a reminder so as not to be distracted again, the seven deadly sins are; Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride.

Now back to our regularly scheduled blog post…

I think Edith Wharton is correct and we need to beware of monotony in leadership, it leads to sloppy thinking and eye rolling.

Today make a list of all the tasks you do again… and again… and again…

option 1 = change how you do them regularly so they aren’t monotonous (especially any reoccurring meetings on your list.

option 2 = Decide what the outcome you’re looking for from the activity is, figure out another way to reach the outcome, and stop doing the monotonous activity for a month and see if anyone notices.

option 3 = figure something else out for yourself 🙂 BUT make sure you eliminate the monotony.
