Who Helped Me the Most in 2016? #helpedme2016

Keenan (you may know him as A Sales Guy and the author of Not Taught; What it Takes to Be Successful In The 21st Century That Nobody’s Teaching You) already wrote the post Who Helped Me the Most in 2016?

naturestuff-048The cool thing is he asked everyone to answer the questions he was asking himself.

Of course, I’m not very good at following instructions, yet I do want to share mine:

WHO HAD THE GREATEST IMPACT ON YOUR YEAR?
Alice Kemper

WHAT DID THIS PERSON HELP YOU ACCOMPLISHMENT OR ACHIEVE IN 2016?
Alice has helped me to keep moving forward in my business.

WHY WAS THIS ACCOMPLISHMENT SO IMPORTANT TO YOU?
WHAT DID ALICE DO TO HELP YOU ACCOMPLISH THAT GOAL?
HOW DID THIS PERSON’S SUPPORT MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
WHY ARE YOU SO THANKFUL FOR THEIR SUPPORT?
That may not sound like a very concrete goal. Especially from someone who continually talks about SMART goals, being specific, making sure you celebrate all your little successes, etc.

The second half of the year has been quite a challenge for me, I had a personal tragedy with the death of my Dad and have also been dealing with a quick health decline for my Mom. Focus on my business didn’t slip, it was intentionally put aside.

Alice who chairs a mastermind group I’m part of has been instrumental in encouraging me to keep up my momentum even if the steps are little ones.

HOW IS YOUR WORLD DIFFERENT TODAY BECAUSE OF THIS PERSON?
A voicemail here, note there, and lots of reminders so I don’t miss things (that I certainly would have without her) is something that she doesn’t realize have made a HUGE impact.

Most importantly, she said something (I honestly don’t remember what exactly it was) that allowed me to forgive myself for not reaching some of the goals I had set for myself in 2016.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SAY TO THIS PERSON, THAT YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY TOLD THEM?
Alice, in a year where I could have ending feeling like I’d failed at all the roles life has put in front of me; entrepreneur, salesperson, wife, daughter, friend, and more – you made me realize that some days I have to give myself a break.

Because I’m not at my personal view of 100% doesn’t mean I’ve failed.
> It means I’m human.
> It means I can ask for help.
> It means it is ok to readjust a goals timeline.
> It means I need to be kind to myself.

To keep #helpedme2016 going I WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE YOU SHARE WHO HAD THE MOST IMPACT IN YOUR LIFE IN 2016. Write a little note about who and why in the comments!

  1. Lynn what a beautiful exercise and the thought of Alice
being such a treasure warms my heart- just as you always do. Thank you so much for sharing the gift and her kindness and wisdom. Wonderful things for all of us to remember!❤️

  2. Lynn, I am so touched and honored to now know that just being me helped you the most in 2016. You are a talented woman with great strength, courage, heart and soul. As Harold Kushner said in When Bad Things Happen to Good People, “No one on their death bed ever said I wish I had worked more.” I encouraged you to breathe – give yourself self love. Work will always be there… it may look different but it will always be there. So when you need to be with family in the good times and bad times – that’s where you truly belong. Hugs to you and thank you for this honor.
