Why go to sales training?

dreamstime_xs_40072493Bill Zipp published an article on LinkedIn last week; Four Warning Signs Your Sales Training Is a Waste of Time and Money

He talks about sales training from the perspective of leadership. Which got me thinking… from a salesperson’s perspective;

Why go to sales training?

Here are the top 10 reasons in no particular order:
1. my boss said I have to.
2. I struggle with XYZ and hope to hear new ideas.
3. there is free food.
4. the topic sounds interesting.
5. heard it was worth while from my cube mate who went.
6. it is a welcome break from the grind.
7. I need the skill the training is about.
8. I like the trainer.
9. it’s better than sitting at my desk making cold calls.

and last but not least 10. is…. BECAUSE I WANT TO BE THE BEST SALESPERSON I CAN BE.

Why the list? Why even ask the question?

Because it isn’t only leadership’s responsibility to make training effective – it’s yours too.

Next time you go to sales training be sure you think about why your going. THEN decide to choose a single item from the training and use it for the rest of the week.

Play with it. Make it your own. Be the best salesperson you can be.
