Is inside sales leadership labor?

labor I always love checking out Merriam Webster‘s definition of words and then reexamine my thoughts around a topic.

As it is Labor Day in the US, today I was thinking about leadership as labor.

“physical or mental effort”
Leadership certainly takes mental effort!

The question is: are you running on autopilot, using habit vs. intention?
> if you aren’t putting in mental effort, your results are probably not what you would like them to be.

“work for which someone is paid”
Inside sales leadership is something that comes with a paycheck, hopefully that isn’t the ONLY reason you are leading a team!

The question is: does your compensation pay you more… or less than your passion?
> Leadership success takes a level of passion. Typically the idea of labor and drudgery (going back to Merriam Webster “boring, difficult, or unpleasant work”) are linked in our minds. Check to see if you view leadership as something you HAVE to do vs. LOVE to do.

“workers considered as a group”
Leadership is about your team instead of your own effort.

The question is: do you see team success as your success?
> Many people in inside sales leadership moved up the ranks from inside sales. The biggest difference is that as an inside salesperson – you are looking for your own success vs. inside sales leadership requires you to see the people on your team’s success as what makes you successful.

Take a moment to decide for yourself – Is inside sales leadership labor?
