How successful are you?
Ok I should probably preface that with I’m not asking you are as successful as you could be or want to be – rather I want to know: Are you successful?
If you look at the work you have done up to this particular moment in time. Do you view yourself as successful?
Not based on other people’s criteria – based on your own.
Many people don’t know because they don’t set their own criteria.
What ends up happening is they base their success level on other people’s criteria. This is relatively disturbing! Why disturbing?
1. Other people’s criteria about success are THEIRS not YOUR OWN – you might just “make it” and not even care about it! What a waste of time, energy, and effort that would have been.
2. If you haven’t defined what success is – how will you know when you’ve achieved it? Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for striving for the next step, title, milestone.
BUT we need to celebrate along the way – a moment when we take the next step, a party when we get that title, a vacation once we get to the milestone. How you celebrate isn’t what is important, it is in the celebration itself!
3. If you aren’t measuring your success at all – would you know if the things you do every day are helping you get there? Every day we put in effort, consider this – if we get into my car and drive for an hour where will we end up?
An hour away!
If we don’t know where we’re going, it may just be out of the way OR even worse put us two hours away from our destination.
Take some time and decide what success is for you, which will be the only way you can achieve it.
