Leadership – its a mindset!

I have a couple of definitions for you from my weekly LYNNSIGHT twitter posts.

leadership = providing direction & guidance
manage = supervising activity

How often in your sales leadership role do you end up supervising activity instead of providing direction and guidance?

Leadership is a mindset which means you have to fix your mind on what you intend to do. You may need to press your own reset button inside your head; it is difficult to go from a management situation right into providing leadership – they are different activities!

Another way to say the same thing is; are you responsible TO the person (leadership) or FOR them (management)?

Oh I’m not saying that there aren’t times when you will need to manage salespeople on your team, instead make sure you are deciding which one you want to do – before you get started!
