Does your team expect you to perform Sales Magic?
How about this for expecting Sales Magic: “how to get around voicemail jail and how to get more live voices on the phone.” That is a direct quote from a sales leader that came from a conversation we had on areas where his team would like help.
Not a bad topic, more that when something like this comes up inevitably there are people who believe that there is a crystal ball to look into for the answer OR that I have fairy dust to sprinkle on them and POOF magically it is fixed.
That probably happens on your team as well; salespeople coming up to you wanting you to magically fix: internal struggles, bad things that happened on an order, deals that went wrong, etc. The Magic comes from you working WITH the salesperson not FOR them.
In sales (as in life) the key isn’t hidden – it is the combination of knowledge + skill + confidence. As the leader you have the opportunity to; share your knowledge + role-play to help them gain the skill + believe in them until they have to confidence to believe in themselves.
“Magic is believing in yourself, if you can do that, you can make anything happen.” ~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
