Attitude and Fun – Inside Sales Career Success (1 of 3)

“If you don’t have FUN at work when will you have fun?” ~ Lynn Hidy

I can’t say for sure that it is more or less true for any other industry BUT I know it’s true in Inside Sales that you have to love what you do to be successful!

This doesn’t mean you have to be in love with the product you sell or the company you work for (although neither one of those would hurt). Rather you have to have SOMETHING you love about being an inside salesperson.

I know it probably seems weird to have a winter picture in a September post to most people BUT one of the things I absolutely LOVE is downhill skiing – I tell people that I ski like a girl.. fast & aggressive.

When it comes to Inside Sales, I always joke that I love it because I only have to be friendly for 3-7 minutes at a time.

What do you love about your inside sales career?

The two things that are easier to ‘have’ if we LOVE what we do are:

1. a positive attitude (even when bad things happen… and they will)

I completely agree with “I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.” which is part of ATTITUDE by Charles Swindoll. If we love something it is much easier to keep a positive attitude.

-34 degrees fahrenheit is still cold, yet without winter I can’t ski so my attitude is always *yippee* the colder & snowier the weather becomes (hmm I wonder if it is too early to take my skis in for their annual tune up….).

What can you do to keep your inside sales attitude up?

2. FUN at work (yes I said FUN and work in the same breath)

Fun is contagious, if you have fun so will your prospects and customers. They will hear FUN in your voice and some of the barriers to good communication will come down.

Make things into a game that you find tedious… TEDIOUS is the ANTITHESIS of FUN. Winter driving can be tedious, so I make a game out of it – guessing how long it will actually take me to get where I’m going (with a prize at my destination if I’m within 3 min +/-). Having a prize option sure does make everything more fun.

How can you put FUN into your inside sales day?

If you’ve chosen Inside Sales as your career and don’t look at it as “just another job” – you’ll be amazed at the results you can achieve. A pinch of love, sprinkle in a positive attitude, then add FUN – you’ll be good to go.

  1. naturally like your web site however you need to take a look at the spelling on several of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling issues and I to find it very troublesome to tell the truth then again I will surely come again again.

  2. Thank you for this article. I would also like to mention that it can end up being hard when you find yourself in school and starting out to create a long history of credit. There are many learners who are simply just trying to survive and have a protracted or favourable credit history can often be a difficult factor to have.
